Saint Francis Medical Center
da Vinci® Interactive Open House
Issue: Saint Francis Medical Center installed the da Vinci®S HD™ Surgical System and was expanding its minimally invasive surgery program. Interest from referring physicians was low. Physicians were aware of the benefits of robotic surgery but had not fully embraced the new technology.
Strategy: Capture the attention of referring physicians through an interactive open house. Tactics include a “3-D viewfinder” invitation with photos of the technology to promote the event. The open house offers attendees a benefits-focused presentation of da Vinci, hands-on experience and the chance to "test-drive” the robot by “operating” on a pig heart.
Results: Due to demand, two open houses were held, and attendance topped 90. Referring physicians came from as far as two hours away; six physicians spontaneously addressed the group in support of the technology; one referring gynecologist committed to train on da Vinci at Saint Francis, after years of hesitation.
