Colon Cancer Awareness Campaign
GI Associates

Client/Background
GI Associates, the largest single-specialty gastroenterology group in Wisconsin, was established in 2000. The practice is the result of a merger between Gastroenterology Consultants, Ltd. and Milwaukee GI Specialists. Today, its team of 22 high-caliber gastroenterologists, including a pediatric subspecialist, embraces leading-edge technology and possesses a healthy determination to stay ahead of the curve, serving as a pioneer and leader in the GI field.
Project
March is National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. GI Associates wanted to serve as the expert in the area on colon cancer and its prevention. The objective was to educate consumers on the importance of colonoscopies in prevention of colon cancer and to get people engaged in spreading the word that early detection saves lives.
Strategies
Tactics were marketed toward men and women ages 50 and older and included the following tactics:
- Print ad
- Local radio interviews with doctor and radio host
- Facebook – The Facebook fan page was created in support of National Colon Cancer Awareness Month, and GI Associates was the sponsor of the page. The goal of the page was to get patients talking about colon cancer, if they have been touched by it, and engage with one another in discussions regarding this topic.
Results
- 350 active Facebook fans
- Significant increase in colonoscopy appointments in the three months during and following the campaign
