Saint Francis Medical Center

Client/Background
Saint Francis Medical Center is a 280-bed facility in Cape Girardeau, Mo., serving more than 650,000 people throughout Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Project
In November 2010, Saint Francis Medical Center opened a new operating suite that allows both endovascular neurosurgery and open brain surgery in one room. It is the only hybrid suite of its kind used for neurosurgery in the United States. There is only one other surgical suite installed in the world with the unique capabilities of the Philips and MAQUET systems, and it is used for cardiac procedures.
Saint Francis’ state-of-the-art hybrid suite was designed by Louis P. Caragine Jr., MD, PhD, FAANS, one of about 35 fellowship-trained endovascular neurosurgeons in the nation – and the only one in the region.
Strategies
The emphasis in the creative was the uniqueness of the new operating suite and the value of its capabilities, specifically, focusing on the urgency of brain aneurysms. Tactics included:
- Formal open house invitations to Saint Francis board, executive team and medical staff members
- Posters detailing statistics about Saint Francis’ hybrid suite and conditions treated
- Information cards providing more detailed information than the posters
- Print and web banner advertisements
Results
- Healthy attendance at each open house event
-
Media coverage, including:
- Television news story on multiple newscasts on highest-rated local news station and a story on station’s website
- Articles in the Southeast Missourian and The Cash-Book Journal print and web editions
- Story in Community Health magazine (January 2011)
