Put Your PR to Work
Generating good PR for your organization is always a good idea. When the advertising budget is tight, it is a great way to keep your organization in the public view.
- Develop a good working relationship with the reporters and editors of your local media.
- Send press releases and story pitches on new technology to the appropriate people.
- If possible, have a patient and physician prepared to talk to the media. Tell editors you can provide this “human element.”
- Prepare talking points for speakers to focus on the main message.
- Write and submit Public Service Announcements (PSA) to radio stations. Tie them to certain health observance months, such as Heart Month.
- Send story ideas about successful internal programs to trade publications.
- Submit news releases or produce ads on professional and community accomplishments of employees.
- Plan an event. Invite the media.
- Your own employees are the best PR. Use your internal communications to their fullest potential.
- Be on the lookout for good human-interest stories.
- Consider scheduling a regular press opportunity for the media with your CEO.
